At this point no. I do not think Russell or Quinn exhibited great decision making skills. Both are good QBs, but neither are a sure lock, especially early on. I have heard a lot about Trent Edwards of Stanford, but once again it will be impossible to say he could lead a team to the SB.
The problem you have is that the rookie QB needs to be drafted on to a team that has most of the other pieces in place. When Tom Brady came out of nowhere to lead the Patriots he was playing with team that was already very strong. They were going to the SB with either him or Bledsoe.
Peyton Manning argueably the best QB drafted since Elway and Marino did nothing his first year with the Colts.

As far as being a "field general" is concerned, I've read reviews of the following players where that term was used to describe them: Troy Smith, Kevin Kolb, Drew Stanton, Jared Zabransky, Chris Leak and Brady Quinn.
Once could make a case for Trent Edwards since he had so little talent around him & yet still did some good things.
One could argue that Kevin Kolb doesn't belong on such a list because he's a "system QB" who won't translate well in the pros.
QBs that don't stand out as good field generals include Jeff Rowe, Jordan Palmer and Matt Moore. Jamarcus Russell has shown improvement year-to-year, so there's no reason he can't become a "field general", but one could argue that he's not one yet.
Long story short, yes, there is plenty of leadership skills to be found among this crop of QBs.

Hi,
In my opinion I think the best QB to lead a team to the Super Bowl will be Brady Quinn. There have been three maybe four Golden Dome-rs that have taken a team to the Super Bowl and won. I'm not a ND fan, however, I enjoy football both college and Pro's.
Brady has been with a great program, well coached, disciplined, and focused. As long as he ends up with a good team that has the patience to work him into the Pro system and not rush him into start. He needs at least three seasons to understand the Pro game and the system he is in. So for my money give him til 2010 or 2011 and he will be reaching the top of his game. This is provided he's not forced into a starting position early and he keeps injury free.

I know its going to shock you all, but I think the QB that would be the most likely to lead his team to the Super Bowl is Troy Smith. If you listen to alot of people, they say he doesnt have an arm. This is a lie, he can get up to 73 yards. If he gets to start for an injured QB, he will do great. Theres just something about that kid that I dont see in Russell, or Quinn, or Beck, or Stanton. He seems like he is the best leader out of all of them. 10-2 VS. ranked teams in college? 3-0 vs. Michigan? I think he would be the best bet to go to the Bowl.
I really hope Brady Quinn does good in the NFL, because he will probably be on Cleveland, but I dont like the fact that he couldnt win games against Michigan, LSU, Ohio State, and other big schools, plus he lost every bowl game he played in. I think people give him alot of credit because when you hear Brady Quinn, you think of Tom Brady as well, and when you think of Tom Brady, you think of leadership and Super Bowl wins. Smith will win the first Super Bowl, before any other QB in this draft, if any even make the Bowl and arent busts.

Kind of a weak draft, and as much as I am a Gator, Chris Leak...it would REALLY depend which Chris Leak shows up. As good as he is, he can be Jekyll and Hyde.
Russell makes very poor decisions, so I doubt he's an option.
Troy Smith showed he DOESN'T have what it takes, not only by his performance in the NC game (but one game doesn't make a career) but by his behavior/lack of working out/seemingly lack of committment after the NC game during combines and work outs. A general may not have to be the most talented in the world, but he leads by example.
Brady Quinn - I group him with Leak. Depends which one showed up that day.
If Quinn and Leak can consistently have their "good sides" show up then I pick them.
But to answer the question, not as they stand right now. Maybe in a few years with some NFL clipboard experience, but I don't see anyone right now that can take a game over, march a team down the field and win to the SB.

The only one that I can possibly see is possibly Brady Quinn. He reminds me a bit of Tom Brady, but otherwise this draft is awful compared to last year if you want to draft a QB. Last year there was Young, Leinart, Cutler, who arer all starters now. This year your top QBs is JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn. I bet the Lions are wishing that they hadnt passed up on Matt Leinart, cause I'm sure they would rather have him now.

almost impossible to tell until we can put some of these guys on the field in a high-pressure situation, but i don't think there's one right now that qualifies as being very clutch...brady quinn i think in the future will be the best field general, but i don't know that he's a super bowl quality quarterback yet, and we won't until we've seen him play

1.) Jamarcus Russell (only starting 18 games in college learned to lead his team to win. Will be the best player that can lead a team this year.)
2.Troy Smith (Very Rangy qb who can lead his team if an starting qb get's injured and maybe even to the superbowl)
3. Chris leak (has the press forgot about him, led flordia and may be a bit small but can thorw the best sprial in the draft.)

Definitely not. It's time for a reality check.
Brady Quinn may be a future field general; especially if he is as good as he thinks he is.
