Which experiement led to the belief that atoms consist of a dense positively charged center (ie; the nucleus) which is separated from the negatively charged electrons by empty space?

IIRC, Rutherford bombarded very thin gold foil with alpha particles (Helium ions) and measured the scatter. Not many of them scattered, leading to the thought that atoms (of gold) were mostly 'space'.
