Boric acid, sprinkle it along the baseboards....better if you could puff it under the baseboards, etc. You may need to make some ant poison cups. Mix boric acid powder with sugar syrup and soak several cotton balls in the solution. Put the balls in a baby food jar that has holes in the top to allow the ants in and out. Set these jars where you won't see the action and wait. The ants collect the poison and return to the colony. Eventually the colony dies out.
If this isn't for you, try Combat® Ant Killing Gel . Same principle.
Ants could be nesting outside, you look outdoors for their trails into the home. Treat outside as well.

For ants on the counter top, wipe down counter top with white undiluted vinegar. To prevent ants from coming into the house, or getting into cupboards, sprinkle dried mint or red pepper where they are entering the house and in the cupboards. If you know where the anthills are make a mixture of 50 percent borax (sold in laundry aisle of supermarkets) and 50 percent confectioner's sugar and place near anthill. The ants are attracted to the sugar and carry the fatal borax/sugar combination back to the nest to feed the queen and other ants. Soon all ants will be dead. Do not put this mixture where children and pets can ingest it. To get rid of anthills, pour 3 gallons of boiling water down them. This is best when done when the ants are active and at the surface. Do not do it near flowers or they will die.

Always remember that ants come from outside. They just don't show up. Find out how they are getting into you house (take a walk around the outside of house or follow trail from inside all the way to the outside). Then get those ant trap (ones that look like push pins) and push them into the dirt next to where the ants are.

I have found that the ant baits that you buy in your local gardening store or home improvement store work really well. I had a problem with them in a house I lived in once and I bought some just to see how they would work. They are attracted to them and go through them and get poison on their feet and talke it back to the mound. The poison on the feet of one ant will kill the entire mound. The bad news is--it sounds like you may have a mound in your walls somewhere. If the baits don't work you might want to invest in an exterminator.

When I had ants (in a bedroom) and ant spray failed to do the trick, I called Orkin. A serviceman came to my house and sold me a can of spray that DID work (in my case). It was more expensive than those available in stores but it was worth it. I wouldn't fool around, I would probably have a service come in and spray the entire house. Usually it only takes one time and is guaranteed.

Did you try ant spray?
If that doesn't work, try putting powdered laundry detergent in the cracks and corners. I did this when I had a similar ant invasion, and it really worked (I think it burns their feet or something). Also, if nothing works, you may need to call an exterminator.....you might have a nest somewhere and will need a professional to wipe it out.

Keep cleaning. I had sugar ants, the little black ones (they are harmless by the way), and I just used a steamer to clean my floors well and that did the trick. If you normally don't have a problem then, yes, something is still attracting them. So keep cleaning.
Don't waste your $ on more chemicals, not to mention that they aren't environmentally friendly.

The obvious answer is there is SOMETHING still in your house that ants are attracted to.. Look in the vents or in corners. Go to Home Depot and buy ant traps and fill in any holes where they may be coming in!

ok. well. there is Not nessaraly something that the ants are attracted to. once ants get in they stay, no matter weather there is something there that they want or not. if you dont have any young children, try watering down some bleach and using a sponge to wipe down counters and sinks. that should help some. and if worse comes to worse..call an exterminator :)

You have to treat outside the house. Ant bates..if you have a yard you have to do an ant granules on the grass..If you have to get them to take the poison back to the queen ant once she is dead the rest will die too.
