You will need to re-format the hard drive when you install Windows XP. When one version of installed over top of another you'll get a dog's breakfast.

It's been a while since I had to deal with ME. I think you actually need to since they are based on 2 completely different codes (which is why XP is far more stable than the worst MS OS ever produced...ME). Boot off the XP Install CD, one of the steps will be to whether you want to format your partition, choose yes. This will however erase everything else you have on that drive because you are going from one time of file allocation table to a different type.

No. You want a clean install of xp if you can. You do NOT want to upgrade from me to xp it will be a nightmare if you do.
1 Back up what u need to. 2. Do a clean format. 3.Install xp.
Anything else is a waist of time.

No, But you are going to have many problems, and by the time that you upgrade everything that you have to, you would be better off buying a new computer. It will cost you more money to upgrade, and if you just buy a new computer, you will not have all of them problems. Just wait until you can afford to buy a new one. I am just trying to help you avoid all the problems you will have, and all the headaches, trying to figure out how to fix something. You can get a computer now, for around $400.00, if you keep checking the circulars, and the sales on computers...Good Luck

no, but you'll probably want to upgrade from FAT32 to NTFS file system (which Windows XP supports but ME doesn't)... doing this will wipe your harddrive (which will take care of that pesky windows ME)... make sure to back up your documents!
