Once the year is over, measure how far the light traveled in our year.
Light is a mystery, I think there is something about it that we are over looking. There is something about light that holds the key to space travel that is beyond our comprehension at this point, once we unlock hyper space travel distance will no longer be a factor. There is a formula floating out there waiting to be unlocked that will make galactic distance obsolete.
It's like a cloud hanging over my head but I haven't learned enough yet to form a theory.

light-years are actually a measure of distance and not time.
A Light-year is the distance light travels in an earth year. It is used since space is so vast.
There is no way to equate a light-year into earth years since on is a distance measure and the other is a measure of time.

Light years are not so much a measure of time, they are a measure of distance. They use light and years because of the vast amount of distance that light travels in a year. A light year is the amount of distance that light will travel in one year. We have to use this cuz light is the fastest thing we know and produces the smallest figure.

EArht years is a measure of time. light years is a measure of distance (specifically, how far light travels in one Earth year). Light travels 5.879 triilion miles in one Earth year. So, if you are asking how far light travels in 4 years it would be 5.879 (trillion miles) x 4 (Earth years). that equals 23.516 trillion miles. Hope I was some help.

light years are not time, they are a unit of distance. A light year is the distance it takes for light to travel in one year. The speed of light is about 30,000,000 meter per second

4 -A light year is a measurement of distance and recommends the use of calendar years, specifically Julian (and not Gregorian) calendar years of 365.25 days, or exactly 31,557,600 seconds. This gives the light-year an exact value of 9,460,730,472,580,800 metres
