Or does it not matter?

Let me change this a little...

As a so-called super power, which we are, what are the responsibilities that we must demonstrate?

It matters just as much as it matters that role models behave responsibly (that goes for either political party, any athlete, celebrity, etc.). If we call ourselves the greatest nation (and I believe we are), then we need to act like it.

Start with diplomacy and add some accountability. Stop the shoot-from-the-hip military policy and actually reach out to other countries you disagree with. Mutual respect is not easily gained, but is easily lost. I'm sure many resolutions can come to problems in which there is nothing but a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of intentions.

Intercultural communication tells us that we sometimes have cultural obstacles to overcome in order to effectively communicate. This should be a constant thought when serving as a diplomat or ambassador.

The US does not need to pander to the rest of the world. We (our government) should be first and foremost responsible to our (legal) citizens. We already give more aid than any other country through public and private entities and all the rest of the world does is tell us how to run our country and put their greedy hands out for more all the while telling us how "evil" we are. Personally, I think they should all just pis!! off.

Before anyone goes off half ****** I have lived in many countries outside of the US and was treated good and bad equally by the people of those countries. Usually the ones demanding the most US tax dollars are the rudest. Just my personal observation. I also gave each country the respect of learning their language and conversing in it while I lived there.

there is only one method by which America can recapture the respect of it's citizens and the peoples of the world... cease violating the LITERAL parameters of the Constitution of the United States of America and The Declaration of Independence, each of which can only be legitimately defined by the full definitions, word for word, punctuation included, within the Unabridged English Dictionary of 1776 used by Benjamin Franklin [Library of Congress], who signed both documents.

We need to follow the "golden rule" and treat people like we want to be treated. If, as in pre-Bush times, we also lead the world in idealistic pursuits like helping people to better themselves and being committed to justice instead of cash, in time we can earn back the respect that Bush has lost our country. During that time we should establish a not for profit health care system in our country for all citizens and once again be the leaders in protecting our world from ourselves. Also, we have to protect our constitutional system by removing all money from politics and the election process. Dennis Kuccinich has some great ideas like this, however he doesn't have the money to put up a great showing like most of the multi millionaire front runners who are just more of the same.

There is not much we could do to make other countries accept what we do. If we change what we are then we are no longer America. What our country and government does to other countries is what makes us what we are.

You don't get to be the worlds only super power by playing nice. I would much rather they fear us than love us. As long as they fear us, we are safe.

Look after its own first! Cut off all imports & all forms of immigration indefinitely! Penalize the corrupt employers out of business. End the current role of representative government "Puppets paid by puppet masters." Make all levels of government at will well managed employees. Amend the constitution removing Republic of out. Give ultimate rule & control to the legal citizen majority. Build up our military & manufactoring base. Rebuild the American family values in the most united way! Its time for some truth/honor to rise over this major mess of corruption brought on by the greedy in rule & control. We will put them out of public harms way! It matters to millions of average legal citizens.

This is easy all we have to do is wait for a world wide crisis like the Muslim attacking Europe, Iran getting nuclear weapons and threaten the rest of the world etc...then they will scream for us to do something and if we handle the problem of course we will become acceptable again as long as they need our help, once they believe they no longer need our help it will be back to bashing the US again, it is that simple.

We need to give up all of our wealth and all of our power. Become needy enslaved people doing the bidding of every request.

Even though the US donates more aid than any other country, according to most in the global community, it is not enough. There is a prevalent thought that the US should give all of its wealth away and keep our noses out of their business. That is a socialist view and will not fly in MY America....I'd rather have them pi$$ed at me for no real reason then enslave myself and my neighbors (all Americans) for Global popularity.

This isn't junior high. We shouldn't be so concerned about the opinions of other nations, unless it interferes with our ability to conduct our day to day business in this country.

Churchill said it. Nations don't have friends, they only have common interests.

How to be globally accepted? Stop calling evil evil. Stop doing what is right in God's eyes. Stop trying to help people get out from under dictators. Stop being a sovereign nation. Reject God on a broader basis.

Should we? Of course not.
