Last night, my boyfriend of over a year, whom I live with, took offense to me saying "Stop, please." when I was trying to take some medicine before bed and he grabbed me playfully. So his reponse was "I don't want to be with someone like you. I just want to break up." Two hours later, he denied saying, says he didn't say it... then says he didn't mean to say that. What he meant was that he was mad at me for refusing his sexual advances... He said "You misunderstood me." He does this a lot when drinking. I don't know HOW I could misunderstand that comment and I told him, he does it all the time when he's drunk so this time, I'll take him up on the offer. He says I'm overreacting. What do you think? Why does he say this when he's drunk? Isn't alcohol like a truth serum for most people?

I think he says it because he really means it, and I also believe that alcohol is a truth serum for everyone who drinks it, not just most people. Go on and leave, but don't take him back when he comes crawling in a couple of days, make him realize what he missed out on! HIS LOSS, NOT YOURS!!

Truth serum? LOL. How about this, he may have a drinking problem if all you can remember this statement for is the drunken times. Alcohol may have brought him to some other crazy place in his mind. As a truth serum, I've seen worse.

Sounds like he has a drinking problem. If you don't want to babysit a drunk for the rest of your life, next time he says he wants to break up, pack your things and leave, or pack his things and send him away.

someone who plays about breaking up often really is not worth your time. What about in the future when things get more serious? Is he just going to walk out because you dont want to have sex? Dump him.. Sorry

You didn't misunderstand. You understood him exactly. He said it hoping you'd feel guilty and give in. Why are you with this guy?
