If so where can I get one that will fit in the small body of my laptop and is there a place to get good directions to do it. The Genius bar shut me down and said there's no way to do it.

The "geniuses" at the Apple store are restricted in what they are allowed to tell you.

It's a 2.5" Ultra ATA/100 notebook hard drive. The original was 4200RPM, I believe... probably because it runs cooler. Search online to verify this.

It can be done, but is quite complicated.

You need a couple of specialized tools and a lot of patience and skill. Get help if you're not sure.

It is very difficult to do without breaking your laptop. You'd have to be very technically proficient to get it right the first time you tried. I'd rate the skill level needed as expert.

buy an external hard drive...they hold a lot and they are portable...not too expensive either.
