sometimes when i get emails, a little number will pop up next to the Mail envelope on my yahoo toolbar, but other times, it wont show anything?

Good question. I get the same thing. Sometimes it will show a number to tell me how many emails I have waiting. And other times, it will show no number at all, but when I open my mailbox, I've got new mail sitting there. Maybe it's a glitch in the program somewhere.

the number only appears on the envelope when its regular mail, but the mail is there way before the number appears and it doesnt happen for bulk

The number is telling you how many new emails you've gotten since the last time you logged in. So if you logged in, but didn't check your email, and then didn't get any new emails, the next time you log in, no number.

Maybe you forgot to sign in, on your toolbar.

If this thing annoying you, You should turn on the pop-up blocker, so that thing doesn't bother you again.
I've never seen that number either,.....

it only likes you on some days, on some days it gets moody and doesn't want to tell you how many e-mails you have

mine does that too. i think that it must only check your email like once every 10 minutes or just whenever you click on it. but it's really annoying though.

maybe the number is b/c there are attachments. Try to make note of it.
