ok so i have a tooth that hasnt grown in for almost 4 years. the orthodontist took x-rays and the tooth is coming down, but very very slowly. she said i could either wait for the tooth to come down, or they can scratch away my gum thats covering the tooth, put a brace thingy on it, and make it come down. i said i would just wait because the second option seems so gross and painful. has anyone ever had that and does it hurt alot? i dont want to have to have braces for much longer, but the thing they have to do to get my tooth down faster sounds so painful!

This sort of happened to me too. but they didn't do anything to force the tooth to pull down. What happened to me was that I had wonderfully straight teeth, and they removed 2 that they thought were taking too long to come out. In the meantime, the replacements took 3 years to come in. In that 3 years, all of the rest of my teeth spread into the gaps and they had to put braces on to re-straighten my teeth, and leave space for the slow ones to come into the right spot. Making your tooth come in does sound horrid, did they show you any pictures of the hardware so you understood what they were really doing?

is this a wisdom tooth by chance? Or is this a normal tooth? If it is a normal tooth, I would probably have the procedure done. That way you would get the braces off sooner.
