Ruth was with the Yankees from 1920-34. He mostly played right field, but also played a little center field in his first few seasons in NY, played at first base in 14 games over the years, and even pitched in five games. He was quite a good pitcher in his pre-Yankees days with the Red Sox but was deemed more valuable as a hitter (true enough).

He played right field and also pitched a total of 5 games for the Yankees.1920(1), 1921(2), 1930(1), and 1933(1). He actually went 5-0, eventhough his pitching lines looked like Jason Marquis.

When he first arrived in 1920, he would play whatever was not the "sun field," either left or right. By the time Yankee Stadium opened in 1923, it was nearly always right field. When he got older, around 1932 or so, he would occasionally play left field again. And he made six pitching appearances, winning them all (although a couple of them were sloppy, including his last, in 1933).

Right field. He only pitched in Boston, the Yankees wanted him in the lineup everyday.
