put them in a tub of soapy water big enough for you to stand in and walk on them like people stomp grapes, then use the washboard. When rinsing, put them in a tub of clean water and walk on them as this helps remove the soap; repeat the rinsing process several times as soap left in clothes makes the colors dull and often make the wearer itch.

Remember that rinsing out the detergent is just as important as the washing. If you don't get all the soap rinsed out the clothes will still be dirty. The tips for hanging the clothes up were very good.

I had to do this when my kids were little 30 years ago. Don't let your laundry build up, do a little every day. Do your undies and sox when you take your shower. Shirts that get hung on hangers--- hang them on a plastic hanger and wash them on the hanger. The weight of the water will actually pull many wrinkles out. Just smooth the rest with your fingers.
When hangin the rest of your laundry, Shake your slacks with the seams matched so that the fall into a natural crease. Hang them on the line as smooth as possible. T's hang hem side up and then hand smooth them. The more fussy you are with the way you hang them to dry, the less ironing.

This is the 21st century. Get a wash machine, if not an automatic, buy an old wringer washer. I can understand wanting to dry them outside but to wash "all your clothes by hand" is not acceptable. Hand washing cannot get clothes as clean as a machine and trying to rinse them completely takes more water than a machine would. Also, you'll be saving your skin and your back. If you don't have hook-ups, go to a laundrymat. Please, stop this madness!

Use rubber gloves to spare your hands from detergent damage and to keep skin oils and hand lotion out of the wash water.
Some dirt comes out easier if you use a bit a baking soda in the wash water.
A bit of vinegar in the rinse water helps remove soap residue from fabric and leaves a cleaner smell.
