I know that bases (bitter) are tasted on the back portion of the tongue, and acids (sour) are tasted on the frontal side portions of the tongue, but are there any exceptions to this? are there some acids tasted in the bitter portions, or vice versa?
Here is the list of acids, bases, and neutrals I'm working with:

acids
Hydrogen Peroxide
Isopropyl Alcohol
Aspirin
Tonic Water
Vinegar

bases
Pepto-Bismol
Alka-Seltzer

neutral
water
saline solution

I'd appreciate your help!
Thanks in advance.

There is a book "Natural History of the Senses" that I have enjoyed that gets into all that---and where on the tongue each type of taste is received. Even my son has enjoyed the book, and he is a microbiology major/ pharmacy. good luck. jb
