Took a digital ovulation test and my wife ovulated on April 3rd. We did have sex on that day in the afternoon and early in the morning. Her last period was on March 17th, 2006. So, today is day 40. Her last cycle was 32 days. She is 22 with one child already and I am 27. At this point knowing that she did in fact ovulate earlier in the month isnt that the halfway point toward your period and she is under stress but only as of lately (and it has been alot) but its very late in her cycle can stress delay it if she did ovulate 24 days ago and if so for this long?

Stress can delay ovulation but after ovulation the period comes about 14 days later. You are right that once you ovulate the rest of the cycle is pretty much set in stone. Besides pregnancy, the only other thing that may delay a period after ovulation is a corpus luteum cyst.

She either didn't actually ovulate that day (the tests show the hormone the body produces, but not that it actually happened) or she is pregnant. Stress can only cause a later period before ovulation has happened by delaying ovulation. So it is possible that if she was stressed around the time the test said she was ovulated that it didn't actually happen. A better, and cheaper, way to know if she ovulated would be to start charting her basal body temp and checking cervical fluid, this would show better if she had ovulated and when. It is too late to try that this month, but if she doesn't end up being pregnant next month would be a good time to start. fertilityfriend.com gives information on what to do and a way to keep track of the charts. If she is pregnant it should be far enough past ovulation for it to show up on a pregnancy test so now would be a good time for her to take one.

I would have to disagree on the BBT method. Though it can help if tracked for a certain length of time, it is definitely not the quickest or most accurate way to tell if you are ovulating. Also, OPKs measure a hormone that is released usually within 36 hours of ovulation. If you have a spike in this hormone - shown with the kit, be assured that you are ovulating. It will not detect the hormone without pending ovulation. Once you receive a positive with the kit, it is best to have intercourse that day, as well as the following 2 days.

Monitoring your Basal Body Temperature is another form of pin pointing when you are ovulating. However with BBT, it only tells you of the hormone surge after it has already occured. You will have to carefully chart your body temperature at the same time every morning before you get out of bed. After a few months, you will be able to compare the results from your charting and figure out when is the best time to try. This is, in my opinion, a very frustrating way of trying to conceive. Just a thought...

*It is worth noting that high stress can hinder your chances of conceiving.

Stress can delay the period even if she did ovulate. Try to have her relax. Has she taken a pregnancy test to be sure she's not pregnant?
