The Kurds take care of their own business and don't try to kill each other like the Shiites and Sunnis do. They pretty much are keeping to themselves in Northern Iraq and doing what they have done since the Gulf War. The Kurds are more interested in being prosperous and democratic than settling old scores.

For the same reasons that Afganistan was such a success, Nationism among its people. Kurdish people have great pride in their roots and when America kicked Saddams butt, the Kurds supported us. Before us they begged and died for help. But we don't care because they aren't Americans, right democrats? Now that Saddam is using Biological weapons of mass destruction on the kurds they have a chance to protect themselves.

This is key to understanding the future "Balkanization of Iraq" the notion of making it into alot of tiny countries specifically Kurdistan. Read up on this its very interesting. The key to the problem is the town of Kirkuk located on the biggest oil reserve in the country. We want the Kurds to control this area. The problem is the Kurds want to own a greater area than just Kurdish Iraq theres alot of land in Turkey and Iran they want.... But now you know.
