On my 2002 Hyundai Elantra, I recently changed the air filter, engine oil/filter and transmission oil (manual). Only the air filter was DIY (FRAM filter). Afterwards, my MPG is down from 27 to 25 under same driving style (this seems small, but because the car automatically computes it, it's very noticeable). What could be the problem?

Around the same time, I left the car in a lot for 2 weeks. Probably irrelevant info, but just one more deviation from the normal routine.

Is it possible that a brand new air filter is worse than the dirty original one with 50K miles? Where should I buy a air filter?

It could be something as simple as a change in the weather conditions. the colder weather will take the car longer to warm up and it will run richer longer, and you will get lower gas mileage.

Give a month or so and see where it lines out at. It could be a temporary condition.

This is very basic more air in (better air filter) takes more gas to mantain the proper O2 levels, but you should also have better preformance IE: more horse power.

Okay... this may be caused by your electronic fuel delivery system itself... do NOT modify your car system, or else you may even get a very smoky car.

CHECK WITH YOUR DEALER TO SEE IF YOUR SPARK PLUGS ARE PLATINUM OR NOT. IF THEY ARE NOT YOU ARE 20,000 MILES PAST DUE FOR SPARK PLUGS AND THIS COULD CAUSE A DECREASE IN FUEL MILEAGE.
