Richard Gere plants a harmless kiss on the cheek and it is being blown into a sex scandal. This why other countries have problems and so many people are dying (someimes literally) to get out. What is this world coming to?

I understand Morals and rules and laws but lets face it, it was just a kiss on the cheek the cheek thats right just the cheek. He does not live and was not born in India so why don't they just let it slide since it did not hurt anyone physically. IMHO

FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND FREEDOM TO DO WHAT YOU WANT AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PUT ANYONE IN HARMS WAY.

I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THEIR BELIEFS WHEN IT COMES TO A KISS ON THE CHEEK. IT IS RIDICULOUS AND JUVENILE.
GOD BLESS THE USA! I MEAN IT!

If he wants to visit other countries, he needs to be aware of what the standards for public decency are. Criminal? No. Tacky and rude? Definitely.

Because we live in an intolerant world. Having said that, we must also take into consideration the religious and moral beliefs of others. The whole world is not the United States. There are societies in which public displays of affection are not normal. It is their culture and we must respect it, if we wish for them to respect ours. So this actually goes both ways, people from other cultures living in the United States have to tolerate our way of life, even if they do not share our beliefs. Thus, the violence after this incident it is uncalled for in my opinion. I am just trying to understand it, given the framework in which their society functions as a whole. If Richard Gere had apologized wholeheartedly, some of the people might have understood that his faux pas was unintentional and as such, not offensive to their belief system. I said some, because in every society there are those that will never forgive or forget even unintentional actions. I do hope that from now on, other individuals do some research on the attitudes and beliefs systems of any place on Earth that they visit and behave as guests should always behave, with respect and consideration to the host.

If Indians are so "up tight" over a public kiss, kinda makes me wonder what they do behind closed doors. Do the women of this country get any emotional satisfaction/fun at all? Is it just all about adding to the population, with no fringe benefits? I feel they are making a mountain out of a mole hill. But I guess it's just another form of extremism...like the Islamic bunch. There was another story not long ago, about a Muslim woman(I think in Pakistan) kissing her French parachute coach during a fund raiser she had put together. He was an older man, it was a fund raiser for Earthquake victims. There was nothing obscene or romantic about it. Have the Middle Eastern people lost sight of just what is important!

For an unmarried it is difficult to realise that how uncomfortable do some parents feel while viewing such scenes in presence of their children. What was the need to film the scene to display it on home channels? That shameless guy may be appreciated by some in privacy only but others may have a very low opinion about him or her. The man probably doesnot know that rapes of innocents often go unreported and unpunished in some lands but it harms their outward image to appreciate such scenes in public.

What if he or anyone were spreading the gospel message of Jesus in another country? It's the same thing, you are in another country and you respect the laws of that country, that is, unless you are in America. Our citizens are so spoiled, but it is a shame that even within the boundaries of our own country, we still have to "tolerate" anti-Christian religions and haters of our country. Sorry to change the subject from sexual acts to religion but it goes along the same lines of what you can't do when visiting other countries and what outsiders are allowed to shove down our throats in the US.

I responses to poster #2, i don't think anybody could have guessed that such a kiss would be obscene.

Besides India is not a culture that seems to be strict about sex. if you've seen Indian temples, there are a lot of carvings depicting the gods in sexual positions.
