Basically, the war in Iraq is being fought to stabilize the government. And all the money we're pouring into that country is not being met by any significant attempt on the part of the Iraqis to step up and take control of their own lives. Basically, they're welfare recipients.

Why are we okay with paying them and not okay with paying our own people? Same result - laziness and a lack of desire to support themselves.

Military recruiting is actively done in poor neighborhoods, even in middle and high schools, billed as a ticket out of poverty and a shot at earning a degree with college funding from Uncle Sam. The children of the elitist are more likely to be working on their degrees and pedigress even receiving exemptions and having phone calls made so they don't even have to serve the miliatary time they voluteered for like Cheney and Bush. Hey some one has to do the dirty work.

I'm surprised the case worker above didn't mention, that statistically the majority of people receiving Welfare Work. In fact, Until recently WALMART was the largest corporate employer with its employees receiving WELFARE. Also, the majority on welfare are white women that ARE NOT inner city dwellers. I'm suprised she didn't take the opportunity to help clear up some of the myths.

Would it surprise you to learn that Bush's Republican Administration has pitched and sold the OLD Southern Democratic Political View?

Old Southern Conservative Democratics stood for:
Cheap labor (inferior education & keep the poor poor)
Low-tax tradition of Southern Farmers, ranchers and oil men
Fundamentalist Beliefs intertwined w/Govt
Militarism

Sound Familiar?

I'm a Split Party Ticket Voter so my intent is Not to bash. I'd just like us all to look a little closer before we make our next Big Decision.

Oh dear, let me try to be as kind as possible with you. I worked for 28 years as a casemanager for public aid recipients. From what I observed over those years, 90 percent of the problems welfare people had were a result of their bad choices in life. They don't want to stay in school, then they have children at a young age, then they are offered college or training programs paid for by the state so that they can better themselves, then they meet a low-life boyfriend who moves in with them and brings them down, adds to their problems, and even sometimes gives them another mouth to feed. They chose men who do not have jobs or education, so they are horrible providers for them and their children. They chose friends who are equally messed up financially and get involved in things with these friends who bring them down more and keep them down. Giving American citizens money and food stamps does not solve anything. Only people who have to work hard to survive appreciate what they have and try to make a better life. Regarding the war in Iraq, we are there because we have to deal with the terrorists until the Iraqi military is strong enough to deal with them on their own. This will be a long process because Saddam made the country very weak and unstable. Trying to compare welfare for the US citizens and funds for the Iraq war is nonsense. One has nothing to do with the other. Stay in school and try to learn more about the realities of the world.

Remember 1776 we fought for our independence. With the help of another country. As for those on welfare in the US they are just lazy rats and will never be anything more.

It's a matter of semantics.

If it matters to republicans, it's called subsidy. Republicans love subsidies. Especially corporations. Heaven forbid if a billion dollar company should need welfare!

If it helps people, it's welfare.

they want to stop terrorism there, and by stabilizing the area it prevents terrorism from sprouting so much. Look at america, barely any terrorism compared to other places because it is so stable.
