I think that they are awesome as long as you don't use them in crowded places. Then accidents can happen.
Here's some info on them:

I bought my cousins each a pair for their birthdays.
Its the latest fashion craze everyone (teen and pre-teen) is into those things..
I don't think they do any harm..its just another new "GOTTA HAVE" thing which makes the Scooter kind of obsolete now..
Oh how things change huh ?
I rerember vageuely when my cousins said they all have to have a cell phone ? Now its have to have Heelys...
Whats next ? All things repeat themselves.. its like bubble gum music..it all gets recycled for the next generation..
What should you know about them ?
Depending on what kind of pair of Heelys you purchased..
some of them have a screw driver like thing included in the box...to take the wheels out..so the heelys look like regular sneakers..but then there are Heelys where you don't have the screw-driver like thing and you can push a button and put the wheels out or take em in and hide them..
Hope your daughter enjoys her birthday and her new Heelys :)

I don't see anything wrong with them, but most schools won't let you wear them during school hours for safety reasons. So chances are she'd only be able to wear them after school and on weekends.
I would recommend that both you and her do a little web research on the subject so that you are both comfortable with this purchase.
By the way my 5 year old daughter wants a pair but her feet are still too small. Once she grows bigger and can fit into a pair I will think about getting her a pair, but only if she understands that she can't wear them in certain places and to be very careful with them.

I would never buy ANY child a pair of them. Most schools ban them, but the smarter kids just wait until teachers arent looking to skate up the hall and i hate it. It drives me nuts to see kids so disrespectful not to mention at sporting events and such they use them all the time, and bump into people and all sorts of things. I hate them and theres no reason to buy ANY child them UNLESS they will be kept home and only used when you are watching, or in the summer time outside. Thats my opionion

Latest fashion craze i guess! I see kids in malls wearing them all the time. The only issue i have with them is that when they bump into people they don't even say excuse me or sorry. I was in a mall once in a line for the bank machine and this kid comes zooming by and bumps into the person in front of me and they continues on her way. That is my only problem with them is sometimes their head is in the air and not paying attention that they get in peoples way or bump into people.

I can't stand them!!! I am SOOO tired of kids rolling around in shopping malls, the grocery store, my hair salon, in my house, at school...everywhere I go. I can't get away from the little buggers! I wait for them to fall down every time I notice one of them rolling around. Nine times out of ten, I get my wish!

They're cool for recreation. Many schools and stores (like Target) don't allow them, but for hanging in the neighborhood after school and on weekends - why not?
