If your doctor decides an x-ray will help him in diagnosing or treating your pain, then he will help you decide the risks and/or benefits of an x-ray. Many times, a doctor is not going to need an x-ray to treat you.
Here is what I found regarding x-ray. Below is a website that has questions with answers from qualified medical personnel:
"The x-ray study for kidney stones will not expose your developing fetus to a dose of that will increase the risk for birth defects or miscarriage. You need to have these studies because the baby needs to have a healthy mother and the urologist has to determine whether you have stones and then treat the problem if necessary. At 23 weeks all the organs have formed and it is very unlikely that you will have a miscarriage if you take care of your kidney problem. "

By the way, the dose between a KUB (kidney x-ray) and hip x-rays would be very similar.

There is something called a round ligament, it suspends your uterus. It stretches as your belly grows. Many times, this will cause a horrible pain in the hip/side area, like a stabbing pain almost (or what I would imagine it would feel like to be stabbed). I don't think an x-ray would be the greatest thing you could do while pregnant. But years ago (when my mother in law was having her babies-in the '60s) that was a way they would look at the baby when a mom was pregnant. Check with your ob or midwife, there may be something that you could do, aside from x-ray. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I had a really bad pain there also and i went to the ER, when you enter into your second trimester it is safer to have an x-ray or cat-scan (which is what they did to me). They thought it was my appendix but they couldn't find anything except a swollen tube from my bladder to somewhere (not really sure), and that my siatic nerve had a lot of pressure on it. I would say get checked just to be on the safe side cuz you have important parts on your right side that can cause major damage if something is wrong and it's left untreated. But it could be stretching also, you never know...but better safe than sorry.

It could be SPD, which stands for Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction. Basically you produce a hormone called relaxin when pregnant to relax your joints so you can make room for the growing baby and help squeeze it out during labour. However, some women, myself included, go a bit over the top with the joint relaxing and you get pains, sometimes excrutiating, in the hip and pelvic area as the ligaments are strained trying to keep your hips together.
If you do have SPD, go to your GP immediately and request a urgent referral to an obsteric physiotherapist. (I live in Hertfordshire where it has to be the GP referring, midwives are no longer allowed to refer..... ) The physiotherapist will be able to show you how best to move and some excercises that can help. He or she will also be able to get you a support belt, or tell you where to buy one if your local NHS can't afford to fund one for you. If necessary they will also arrange crutches or a wheelchair for you. Unfortunately the only cure for SPD is having the baby so you need all the help you can get soon. Your GP can also prescribe you stronger painkillers suck as Cocodamol.
Either way, go see your midwife or GP as soon as possible. And don't let them fob you off with, oh it's just normal pregnancy pains etc. It sounds really uncomfortable and with 19 weeks to go you really don't want to leave this.
As for xrays, they only do them if they really have to as they aren't good for the baby.
All the best.

You should ring your midwife immediately as she will either have an explanation or give you a scan. They will not give you an x-ray if you are pregnant unless something serious happens like your in a car crash. It may be only you body making room for the baby but its better to be safe than sorry and its not good for you to be stressed out at this time or anytime during pregnancy. I hope that everything turns out ok for you and the baby. Good luck.

My guess would be that your hips are expanding, making you able to pass the baby through your pelvic bone. I did not have this problem when I was pregnant. If you feel something is very wrong, talk to your OB. He'll decide if it's important to do an X-Ray. I don't think it will harm the baby, they just don't like to expose the baby to any radiation whatsoever if they don't have to.
Hope that helps.

While I was pregnant I also had a terrible hip pain. It has gone away since I had my son and I'm pretty sure it had to do with my body preparing for delivery. Also, the bigger I got the worse it got mainly because I was limited in sleeping positions. I would sleep on one side all night. Try to alternate the sides you are sleeping on.

i dont know if its the same pain i had, but i still have it and my baby is 4 weeks old now. so i dont know what to tell u. they wont do an xray probably. and it could just be the pain from ur hips expanding and the relaxin, cuz thats what the doctor's blamed my pain on. but it hasnt gone away after 4weeks of having my baby so im gonna go talk to my doctor about it at my 6 weeks checkup

i have had a horrible pain in my left hip since i was about three months. the only thing the doctor said, is that its probably that "relaxin" pain where your hip sort of seperates to prepare for the birthing. theres not much that can be done about it. good luck
