You can buy a cleaning cartridge from most stores now that sell ink. They work a treat and look the same as a print cartridge.

Make sure you power the printer down and disconnect all leads before attempting any dismantling. Do not try and squirt fluids through the heads. That is certain death for them. If you soak the heads make doubly sure you have dried everything before reassembly. Be prepared to buy a new printer; I've had 2 epsons die with clogged then failed heads, and now use HP as you get a new head with every cartridge.

Use warm water.
Dip the head for few minutes and wipe clean it dry with soft lint free cloths.
For better result use Iso Propyl alcohol.

to scrub the print head cartridges, you choose a definite alcoholic pad bought in many workplace furnish shops. gently rub the alcoholic pad on the print cartridges below the copper strip then wipe with a sparkling paper textile this is non-abrasive and non-static. workplace furnish shops sell those called "Tech Wipes" "Chem Wipes". replace interior the hopper and run the alignment levels.
