It sounds as if you have a primary ignition problem. This is a very easy diagnosis for your truck. Remove the air cleaner assembly to access the distributor/coil area. I should say that this has to be done when the motor will not start, so when it quits or won't start you will have to be ready to do this. First thing to do is be sure you have no secondary ignition output from the coil. Remove the coil wire from the coil and crank the motor, if the ignition is okay, there will be strong blue spark off the top of the coil tower to a ground. If there is none you will have to keep going. You first have to check to be sure that the coil has an ignition power supply. There are two primary ignition connectors to the coil. On one of them there is a pigtail off of it which is white in color and goes to an unused connector which is the tach signal. Most have this extra wire, if you don't have this pigtail you will have to pierce the white wire. You have to pierce or connect the white wire to a 12V test light that is connected to a known good ground on the other side. Turn the ignition on and the test light should light. This means the coil has an ignition power supply. Now turn the motor over while watching the test light, if the test light blinks very quickly the primary parts of the ignition system or good. This would then mean the coil is shorted internally or open internally which both require a new coil assembly. If the test light stays lit with no blinking evident the problem resides inside the distributor. Take the cap and rotor off. Inspect the pick-up coil and module connections, a lot of the time there is a green colored corrosion on the connectors. If there is I would recommend distributor removal and replace both of these parts. If that is okay, remove the pick-up coil connector and test the resistance of it, needs to be around 1000 ohms. If this is okay, the module is pooched. Also give the distributor shaft a wiggle, these had a tendency to wear out. If there is play back and forth, not up and down, the dist. is worn out and you will need a completely new or overhauled dist. It is normal to not have fuel spray when you have no spark as this is how the system is set up. Once you are sure that you have diagnosed the problem, check all of your spark plug wires for corroded connectors. If you find some, replace all the wires, cap, and rotor. These were all problems in this year of truck.Good luck.

Your truck was owned previously by a fundamentalist preacher.

How do I know? Because on the seventh day, it rests!!
