have the technology to use water as a source of energy by splitting the H2 from the O (I am sure it takes a little bit more than just "splitting").......... Why isn't the whole world involved since over 70 % of OUR planet is water!!!!! >>>>> Or is the world just not ready for an end to fossil fuels?????

I think this is definitely something to research and develop further .....................for the obvious reason

If that were to happen the entire oil industry would be forced into fair competition.
The big automakers have been buying-up or putting out of business anybody that comes up with new technology to get more mileage from the old combustion engine for over 50 years.
I think NASCAR could and/or would be a good testing ground for the water powered vehicles. I have not had any response about a separate class of vehicle.

Sweden is doing it now.
They have at least proposed roads that will serve hydrogen fueled cars.
Breaking water into it's 2 elements basically requires DC current not much else.
Remember high school science?
Right now it is just too profitable to build gas eating cars (at least in the US).
I am a big supporter of "Buying American" , but I will not buy American BS.
Bought a Japanese car which is better built, more energy efficient & less expensive than an American car.
It was a tough decision for me to make , but I was just one more person sending a message to Detriot.
When the US auto industry makes a world class hydrogen powered vehicle I would buy one if I did not have to hear they cost more because of development costs.
We have the know how, but not the will.

There are some issues with the hydrogen economy such as storage and loss of gases (Hydrogen is notoriously hard to contain) as well as some other stuff. I would say without a doubt that the main reason we haven't done it is because the financial fortitude hasn't been there. I am sure the oil companies have lined some pockets to keep it that way. However, I just read an article on CNN.com that said that gas was going to hit $4 a gallon this summer. I think I will be breaking out my bike for my 25 mile trip to work. God I hate oil....

Yes, you would think it was something that needed to be developed however, what you are not taking into account is the "Stranglehold" the petroleum industry has on out government. And how deeply entrenched they are in American Business. Do you honestly think a corporation is going to stand back and let you buy something that allows you to not do business with them anymore? Get real. Corporate America runs this country. They will tell you what is good for you, and what isn't.

It takes more energy to break the oxygen and hydrogen atoms apart than can be realized from the use of the hydrogen. There have been rumors of that kind for years, the perpetual motion machine, engines running on water, the rumors abound don't get caught up in them. Think about it, the automakers just make cars why would they suppress any technology that would make them more money?

Because they need fossil fuels to split the H2 from the O then our cars use.

Where have you been? don't you hear the green people talk about the lack of water. Besides, the technology is still being developed.

are you kidding me? You try to tell me that just the US is trying to find ways for a alternative? You should start reading science news...what your companies "discovered" do people in Europe and Asia know for like 5 years...and scientists in this continents searching for alternatives for about 20-30 years.
Just so you won't embarrass yourself in your next question...there is a thing called solar energy and you can use it to run your car too.

It might not be cheap and safe enough, yet.
Marketing a hydrogen fueled car that might blow-up every now and then wouldn't be too smart, eh?!
