Lets see...

Elected to the senate as a Democrat in 1988
Elected to the senate as a Democrat in 1994
Elected to the senate as a Democrat in 2000
Ran as Democratic VP for Gore in 2000
Sought the Democratic Presidential Nomination in 2004
Sought the Democratic Senate Nomination in Connectitcu in 2006 but lost

After losing the democratic nomination in 2006 he decided to run as an independant saying...

"I'm a loyal Democrat, but I have loyalties that are greater than those to my party, and that's my loyalty to my state and my country."

After all this... is it really that hard to consider Joe Lieberman either a Democrat or an "Independent Democrat"

Joe Lieberman is a Jew who is in favor of all that is Israeli. Since Israel and the Arab countries are bitter enemies it stands to reason that he would favor a war to down an Arab country. The stance on the war is the only thing he disagrees with the Democrats on. So Independant Democrat is probably a good handle for Senator Lieberman.

Yes. He is a Democrat and if you were paying attention to the last elections you'd know he was rebuked into a run off for his seat in the Senate. He then lost the run off and changed his platform to Independent and was reelected to Senate through that manner.

Joe is one of the old style Democrats, who oh by the way are not nearly as liberal as the ones who have taken over the party.

It delighted me no end to have Joe best the Democrats candidate in the last election. The new crop of liberals doesn't care about anyone who doesn't think and vote PURE Democrat. And that is Democrat by THEIR standards.

I really like Joe's stand with his "I have loyalties that are greater than those to my party, and that's my loyalty to my state and my country".

This man understands that this partisan bickering has got to end.

he was a drag on the ticket in 2000...a pathetic bumbling campaigner with a whiny and depressing drone when speaking in public...he lost gore tons of votes...and after the election, he turned into a whipped dog, where bush is concerned...kinda like the wimpy kid who gets his butt kicked by the playground bully and spends the rest of the year carrying the bully's books, buying him lunch and just generally toadying up to him...dubya has joe's cojones in his left pocket...and mccain's are in his right pocket

He's labeled independent because he didn't agee with all of the democratic stances. But, he would be left-leaning because of his past. I don't believe he ever left the democratic party completely behind.

No, I consider him a turn coat and a egomaniac. He wanted to be elected and he didn't care how. I was sorry to see that side of him.. for a while I thought he might just be a breath of fresh air.. but nope.. just same old stale crap we all breath.

At least he is a politician who thinks for himself and doesn't kowtow to the leaders of ANY political party. As far as being a democrat, I would say he is, but conservative.
