3 WOMEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO
EACH WOMAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO
HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 LADIES' ROOM WITH $5.

ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY
BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH WOMAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR
HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 WOMEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A
TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

Poor math.

The room actually cost $8.33 each, not $9.

This is an old one and told in such a way as to confuse the figures. The simple answer is that the room cost $25 and the bellboy kept $2. That makes $27 which is the amount the women paid, 3 x $9.

Each woman paid $9, for a total of $27. You don't ADD the bellboy's $2 to that, it's already in it. Subtract that $2 and you have the $25 the desk got.

The trick is the way the math is stated, you cannot add two dollars to the total that each woman paid (getting to $29), after the bellboy gave each one $1 back. You have to instead subtract $2 from the $27 now to get to $25.
The way the riddle states the situation sounds correct but it is completely backwards.

What I'd like to know is WHERE IS THIS MOTEL?
Motels that rent roms for $25 are usually dives, and
they definitely do not have bellboys.

You are doing the math wrong.

Cost of room $25
Bellhop tip $2
Refund 3x1 $3
Total amount $30

Trying to add apple and oranges and asking who added the cherries to the fruit salad makes as much sense as doing the math wrong.
