Here is why I come to this conclusion. They are againts laws actually proving you are citizen before you can vote.
They would like to see all the illegals from Mexico gain citizenship even though they have broken our laws.
They are for allowing people with criminal history to actually vote in elections. Do this party basically look at people as a number and as long as they vote for their party the end justify the means, is my conclusion incorrect if so why?

Actually the largest amnesty for illegal aliens was made by Republican Ronald Reagan.

I doubt either party is for voting before one is a citizen. However it might be noted that Republicans have led the motor voter iniative that would allow someone to register at the department of motor vehicles. No mention of birth certificate or naturalization papers being needed when registering. Registration on line or by mail are also popular.

If people with a criminal history are not allowed to vote than G.W. Bush would not have been able to vote. I believe it is that one who was convicted of a felony cannot vote for a period after their sentence has ended.

Both parties look at the numbers. The Democrats, until recently when the Republicans have started doing it, have looked at demographics in each area and targeted their campaign in each area based on the deographics of that area. This is how the Democrats won some normally Republican areas in 2006.

It seems that those in the White House are the ones calling the loudest for allowing illegal aliens a free ride to citizenship or the ailen worker program.

So, no you are not correct in your assumptions.

As an outsider looking at US politics (I'm a Brit), I'd have to say not. I think the Democratic Party is the Republican Party just called by a different name.

I have long since given up on trying to tell the difference between the two parties. Their policies on economics, foreign relations, crime and punishment, immigration and everything else is identical.

On your particular points though:
- I think the Government should have to prove you're NOT a citizen and illeligable to vote rather than the other way. Making people prove citizenship scares off the poor, ethnic minorities and those on the outskirts of society. These are the people you should be ENCOURAGING to get involved, not scaring them off.
- Migrant workers contribute vastly to the economy - getting rif of them would cause the US economy to collapse (the Sate Dept.'s own figures say so). Given this, surely it is better having them legal and paying taxes, and out of the hands of criminal gangs?
- Why shouldn't people who have committed a crime in their past vote? Being sent to prison is the punishment. Once they've served their time and been released, they've served their punishment - further action after that devalues the justice system. Besides, isn't it better to try and get people with criminal histories re-engaged in society, not isolated from it? In this way they have more of a stake in staying on the straight and narrow.

Sources please!

I love when the party that relishes voter fraud when it empowers people like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney cries when real efforts to ease the burden of registering are discussed.

You fear that illegals will gain enough of a voice by being on the rolls of voters? Good. Now, how do you propose to resolve this issue?

A law that mandates a driver's license or other state ID to be shown every time someone wants to vote? Not a bad idea.

Now, about those absentee ballots. You know, the ones that our troops use to vote while they are in Iraq and Afghanistan? How are the men and women in our armed forces supposed to vote via mail if they can't show their ID?

And my grandparents who no longer drive? Are they supposed to give up their rights?

You see the problem, I hope.

Now, back to the drawing board with you.

No. That is the far left wing of the Democratic party. Just as there is a far right wing of the republican party. Usally these far out ideas do not represent the majority in the party. However as is the case with both parties those with the power in the parties are from the far left/right. However there is enough moderates in both parties with enough clout to get such insane ideas shot down.

My research says this is not strickly true, although I am sure their ARE some Democrats who own businesses that uses illegal labor; in Nebraska nine-tenths of the farmers there are Republican. As goes for the meat-packing plants, ect; And they are some of the main people who use Mexican citizens for that work. Naturally then, they are going to vote in Republican officials who represents their criminal interests. Unfortunately they didn't count on their officials stabbing them in the back and are dismayed now at their leaders who voted in letting in corporate farms to do away with family farms.

You prove your citizenship at the time you register to vote. Not at the polls.

The criminals are those that wish to prevent citizens from voting. And the only ones that want to prevent the citizens from voting are the Republicans. Why? Because they are the minority. The only way they can win is to lie and cheat and steal elections.

And, neocon, you aren't fooling anybody by putting up a black faced picture and then spewing anti-Democratic garbage.

yes it is incorrect. why is it? because you make huge generalizations and assume it implies to all dems. do you know that bush differs greatly in opinion with other repubs on immigration? thats why even though this problem has been on the forefront of polotics for a while you have seen absolutly no action on the matter. when republicans argue amongst themselves they stop the discussion, that good for america... Also my brother is a repub and convicted felon but he still votes, go figure.

I applaud you for your lack of the word liberal in your question, silly as it might be. I believe our republican President is the one wanting to give amnesty to all the illegals already in our country while opening the borders even wider for future illegals. He calls it a path to citizenship. I call it lowering the standard of living in America. It's both parties selling us down the drain.
