If you do not go and change your name after you get married at the Social Security Office, are you still considered legally married? There is nothing on record of the marriage taking place other than applying for a marriage license. My name remains the same even with the IRS if not changed at SSO,

If the marriage license was signed by someone who is legally allowed to preform a ceremony and witnesses and has been filed with the courthouse, then yes you are legally married. If all you did was apply and never went through with the ceremony then no. Changing your name does not mean you are married or not, you can go to social security and change your name at anytime for any reason, doesn't mean you are married.
Why do you ask is what I would like to know? Did you get cold feet and back out?

I was married and didn't change my name. When I got ready to get a divorce that is what I had to do because I was legally married.
If you sent the papers back in after the ceremony was performed and signed by the minister or judge and two witnesses then there is a record of the marriage.

If you have a marriage certificate you signed by an official you are legally married. All of the other things have nothing to do with being legally married.

Yes you are. As long as there is a marriage certificate stating that you and another person got married you are legally tied to that person whether you change your name or not. Many women choose to use their maiden name all their life, it does not mean that they're not married.

Did you sign the wedding license and have a ceremony with two witnesses? If so you are married. You need to go get your marriage license at the court house where you applied for it and take it to the social security place to get it changed. I don't think the name change is automatic.

I think that you are still legally married even though you didn't change your name. Alot of women chose not to change their name for some reason or another.

Did you get married? If you got married, whoever married you had to file with the government. They should have asked for the marriage license... Changing your name is a formality. Your SS number stays the same anyway...

yes you are. what you call yourself is irrelevant. however, are you saying that the marriage ceremony did not take place? That is a different thing altogether. You get married at a registrars office not the social secuirty office. i think you need to be more clear as to what you are on about.
