Another thing to consider is that there are a great number of sole proprietorship's in this country. If there were no taxes on business, those people would not pay any income tax.

Business is conducted in the country . The state of country provides infrastructure and enviornment to support business. The tax is a levy on business income to augment the infrastructure so that more businesses grow.

Good question. Because Congress made it so.

It can be argued that if businesses weren't taxed, the additional profit would allow them to invest more in capital projects which would create more jobs for tax paying individuals. That makes sense and seems logical.

But where Congress is involved, logic is not a driving force. Logic won't get them reelected!
