Pirate definitely - they are always on water and looking for adventure. The cowboy is a land lover and what kind of fun can they have, roping steers, and avoiding dust storms?

I guess a cowboy. I don't think I would like living on some rat infested ship for long periods of time. Although, pillaging and saying ARRRRRRGH might be fun. Cowboys get to spend their time riding horses and shooting stuff, and live mostly in brothels. That seems much better.
