The answer is D. The triangle contains a ninety degree angle so it is a right triangle. The segment of length 12 is the hypotenuse. The other two segments are legs. The relation of the hypotenuse -C , to the two legs A and B is C^2 = A^2 + B^2. You are given the hypotenuse 12 and one leg 6.

12^2 = 6^2 + B^2.

144 = 36 + B^2

108 = B ^2

Take the square root of both sides.

sqrt. of B^2 = sqrt. of 108

so.. B = sqrt. of 108

108 / 3 is 36.

36 is six squared so you are left with (6 * sqrt of 3)

read : six radical three
