My Daughter turns 30, this summer. And I was thinking about the time she was born. What I was doing? What I was wearing? (don't go there)
As I'm remembering those times. What are you're memories of the Summer that Elvis Died. What was you doing. Music, ideas, hopes, etc; No limits. Go for it.
And yes! That makes The Ol' Buzzard, very old!
(I said it. So you won't have to)

Oh my god. I was 15. I remember the day Elvis died. I was in my bedroom, listening to the radio, and they announced his death. At the time, Elvis didn't really hold much significance for me. I was probably into The Bay City Rollers (groan, I KNOW) I was going to be a famous writer (ha!) (Hasn't happened yet, folks. don't hold your breath.) Of course, DISCO. (need I say more?) The guys wore these terrible polyester pants called, Angel Flight. Also open necked polyester shirts, (unbuttoned, of course, to show off a brazillion gold chains) I was a Sophmore in High School, I think. I was unhappy. I hated my life. I must have blocked a lot of '77 out because I can't remember too much else about it!

I was 24 yrs. old. My youngest son was born on Elvis's birthday in 76. I was raising my three sons, yes, I started early! I was just taking it day by day, enjoying the music, my sons and life in general. I loved my tight blue jeans and halter tops, sandles, .... I was a bit of a showy person at that time.. I had a nice figure (still not so bad for an old gal), I loved singing with my albums or 8 tracks(whew! 8 tracks!LOL). My husband (at the time) and I, would take the boys to the park .We would get a couple of weekends a month for ourselves and party a bit... I'll stop there.

I had just finished 7th grade. I had a "Dorothy Hammill" short hair cut and loved listening to AM radio here in NYC. I had a crush on Andy Gibb and Peter Frampton! The music from then is still some of the best. I remember playing a lot of basketball in my Pro-Ked sneakers. Baby blue was the hot color to have at that time. I loved that time period. It seemed much more easy and care-free than today! Thanks for making me think back.

The summer of '77, I was looking forward to starting high school in August. I remember my Grandma had taken my cousin and I to get our school supplies for the year, and we were home after that looking through all of our stuff when we heard on the radio that Elvis had died. Neither one of us believed it at first, but sadly it was true. Ahhh memories...

On cool days I was wearing super bell pants and on warm days it was hot pants! Listening to 'Hello Darlin' and 'D-i-v-o-r-c-e'. Going to the drive-in on Friday night. My hair was ratted and every hair was held in place by 'Aqua Net' -oh my-I just realized how very old I really am!!!!
Oh - I just remembered- that was the year we got in a wreck and didn't have insurance and we were sued for $2,000 for the damage to the other car. We were so young and stupid that we talked about moving and changing our names and social security card numbers. That much money was like the end of the world at that time!!

I was 5, my sister was 1. All of my cousins and I loved Elvis, it was so sad. We got to watch his movies on sat. or sun pm and besides the radio (local country channel), and 8 tracks, thats all the music we had.
My most vivid memories of that age were playing with my cousins, going to the creek & getting caught going to the creek (we had to pick our own switches, although we had been warned to stay away from the creek! lol), I was pretty impressed at going to 1st grade that fall. Oh yeah and Dukes was on friday night, so you had to be good to watch it.

That was the summer I lived in Minnesota and met my first boyfriend at Valleyfair (amusement park). I remember coming back to the car and hearing that Elvis had died.
