Why is it in our society, we put so much energy into holidays, like Christmas, Easter, Independance Day, and so on. It's to the point that most people don't even know what the holidays are about

I agree with that----and all of that emphasis makes many people stressed out and sad when the day doesn't live up to some overblown expectation. I prefer the everyday things!

I know what the meanings are of most holidays. It's a good excuse to relax and have a fab dinner and drink to honor it. Any excuse for a great dinner! It's a chance to let loose and have a little fun. Maybe except for Presidents Day, can't think of a good excuse for that.

I would think that they are traditions for a lot of people.Passed down from their parents to them.Any way why not have a reason to feel good about the day and have family around you?/I'm all for Holidays any time....

It is true and sad that not a lot of people really celebrate the reason of the holiday. But it is part of tradition an culture...
