It's genetics whether you will get stretched marks or not.
Nobody likes stretch marks, but is it possible to get rid of them completely?
Technically, there is no clinical evidence to prove that any currently available remedy can remove stretch marks completely and permanently.
The good news is there are several products and treatments available that can significantly improve the appearance and texture of these unsightly scars.
It helps to understand that stretch marks are scars, or more precisely, scar tissue. Visible scar tissue develops after skin has been stretched to its limit, causing fibers within the skin to break. These fibers usually stretch and break due to unusually rapid weight gain. This can occur during pregnancy, bodybuilding, puberty, or uncontrolled binge eating.
Stretch marks also develop over time and gravity plays its part in the production of them. Skin begins to sag with age and this process creates scar tissue.
To date, there is no technology that is proven to repair this damage completely. As noted, there are remedies that can help diminish stretch marks. These include plastic surgery, laser treatments, skin peels, natural remedies, exfoliating products, and lotions, stretch mark creams, and moisturizers.
Other remedies include exfoliation and the application of lotions or creams. These products can help improve the appearance and texture of stretch marks to some degree, but again, cannot repair or remove the damage. Certain products in this category may only provide significant results if the stretch marks are minor and new. These products are not recommended for scar tissue that is over one year old, so be sure to check the label before purchasing stretch mark preparations.
There are also natural items that are frequently used to exfoliate and moisturize skin, which can be made from everyday products you already have at home. Salt, baking soda, and oatmeal are often recommended for use in gentle exfoliation, and vitamin E caplets are broken open and rubbed onto the skin.
Eating an appropriate diet made up of nutritious foods and exercising to bring skin back to its naturally firm and taut consistency is of course the healthiest way to improve stretch marks.
Of course, the very best way to deal with stretch marks is to prevent them in the first place by drinking plenty of water, keeping skin thoroughly moisturized, exercising and avoiding rapid weight gain if possible.

My mom makes bath and body products so I have access to this stuff. I went from a size 5 pants to a HUGE pregnant woman with a 9 1/2 lb baby, and had no stretch marks. I used Cocoa butter, Shea butter, and vitamin E oil twice a day. I was very greasy, and had to use old sheets on my bed, because the oils stain, but I have no stretch marks at all. Just using a cocoa butter lotion isn't as effective because there is other stuff in it, so I would try the sticks. They have more cocoa butter in them. The vitamin E oil was a mixture made just to apply to skin, so it wasn't all thick and had to rub in.
Don't use Retin-A while you are pregnant, there are even warnings on the insert, but you can use it afterwards.
Also, eat food rich in essential fatty acids. They are not only good for a baby's developing brain, but are good for the elasticity of your skin.

Stretch marks are normal, any time there is a fast weight gain, pregnancy, etc. There really is no way to get rid of them or prevent them. There are products on the market that will help minimize their appearance, but I've found that good, old fashioned cocoa butter works best.
They are a lot like scars. They will fade in time. The best thing to do is to keep the skin moisurized very well. They can be itchy.

Two friends pregnant at the same time - same age - one friend gets stretch marks - the other not so much!
Her prevention? Pure Grape Seed Oil. It is also supposed to help within 3 months AFTER the stretch marks....on the alternative RETIN-A will heal scars ANY scars if put on very soon after the scar is formed or even while the wound is healing.
I know Retin-A works on scars, I had my nose pierced and developed one of those nasty scars over it, within a week the scar disappeared and my nose looked like a normal pierced nose.
Are you taking any Vitamin-E?
If you were to walk in to your local natural food stores they usually have reference books in the vitamin area.
It's a fantastic thing that you are looking at prevention first then cure....good for you!!

well technically there is no way too get rid of them, but you can make them less visiable. it comes from gaining weight to fast in one period of time. im skinny and i have them too on my butt and upper thighs, and they used to be kinda bad but now you cant even notice them and im going to tell you how you can do it. so the start by keeping your skin moisterized. second exfoliate, exfoliate and exfoliate them, it will remove the dead cells and soften them. use an exfoliating product like st. Ives scrub, or oatmeal scrub, or do like i did go to a dollar store and get some exfoliting scrub it works the same. you should exfoliate them every other day. then folow by using moisturizing lotion with a good source of Vitamin E, like Cocoa butter and Shea butter, it doesnt necessary have to be those products, it can be baby lotion, baby oil..etc, just use something that will keep your skin moistened for a long period of time. put lotion on twice a day on the areas of your skin that gets cracked and dry.when you skin is dry it also streches the skin, so dont forget to keep it moist. i started exercising(not at a gym cuz im super lazy to the extreme) at home and lost a lit bit of weight recently . Or if you dont want too just put on some dancing music and burn that weight off. there not going to recover over night so just be patient and it will work. so just try it and let me know how it goes.

Stretch marks used to be considered irreversible, but now there's hope.
Phytolastil was the first formula to be clinically proven effective against stretch marks. It was first formulated in 1975 after a landmark study on stretch marks, and has been clinically proven many times since. Phytolastil is household name in France, and is recommended by skin specialists, dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons and gynecologists around the world
Developed by Laboratoire Lierac of Paris, Phytolastil works because of a unique Alchemilla, Climbing Ivy and Horsetail formula. This amazing herbal blend has withstood the test of time and is considered to be the leading stretch mark treatment in France and many other countries.
Phytolastil works because its Alchemilla, Climbing Ivy and Horsetail formula tackles the problem at source. It stimulates fibroblast cells in the skin which produce protein fibres, reversing the damage and restoring smoothness.
One formulation is used to diminish existing stretch marks and another is used to prevent these disfiguring marks:-
i) Phytolastil Ampoules - Diminishes existing stretch marks
With 80% concentration of the extracts Alchemilla, Climbing Ivy and Horsetail, Phytolastil Ampoules act intensively to reactivate fibroblast cells and produce protein fibers, which help to repair and smoothen skin. First results are visible after 25 days. With continued use, stretch marks fade and become narrower until they are less noticeable. Use one ampoule twice daily on stretch marks for six to eight weeks.
Results are permanent, and you can stop once the stretch marks are treated!

Moisturizing is the best way to prevent them. Palmer's makes a special formula for the growing tummy but any thick lotion applied 2 times daily will help (if you can apply more, that even better)

Usually rapid weight gain or loss causes them, but I've heard it can be somewhat genetic too. There is no complete cure for them although there are products that help them to be less visible. massaging virgin organic coconut oil on them a few times a day can make a big difference in their appearance.

Stretch marks dont have to happen when you put on weight they can happen when you lose it too. I had no stretch marks when pregnant and then when I started to lose the weight they came then.
Incidently, why are people assuming this member is fat...how rude and how judgmental.
