I have a Red Ear Slider, he is prob about 1 yr. old. About a week ago, I noticed a long white stringy looking thing coming out of his rear that is about 3 inches long. I know there intestines can come out and go back in, but this has happend about 4 times, maybe more and it breaks off. So I don't think a turtle has that many intestines to lose. I don't have gravel or anything small that he can eat and be trying to pass. I haven't seen him do this anymore for about a week now. His eating habits are normal, his bowels are normal and he acts just happy as can be. Anyone know exactly what this could be?

If these are flat and a little wide, it might be a tapeworm (see photo: http://www.i-nomi.jp/images/tapeworm_JP.gif) . This will require medication from a vet - find one familiar with turtles becasue dosage is related to weight, and is the fact that a good portion of their weight is shell, they can be overdosed. In the meantime, wash your cands well when doing anything with him or the tank!

According to all my knowledge, a turtle shouldnt be doing that normaly. but dont worry! it doesnt sound like a serious illness to me. One of the most likely answers to that would be that the turtle had eaten something that had upsetted its stomach, therefore its body is trying to get rid of something. if he's not eating anything or if you notice he is swimming lopsided then it may be a stomach disease. I advise you take him to the vet just for a check up. i hope this helps.
tell me how the little fella does!

Sounds like an intestinal worm. I would highly recommend investigating parasites common to his species. It is likely that your local pet store will have some advice for this malady as well.

How about a parasite? I think it would be best to take him to a vet that specializes in herpetology and get him checked out....that just sounds weird!
