I live in the US and yes it does sometimes however it is a lot more subtle than it was say 10 years ago. Mostly it comes from older men that were raised the old way and still secretly believe that a woman's place is in the home. I think that the younger men tend not to think like this anymore.

However with more immigration I do see it sneak into the workplace through men of other cultures that still think of women as their possessions. Though in the work place they try to mask it as something else like insubordination or rudeness on the part of the women toward them.

Younger women that have not had to deal with these issues in the past may over look it and think it doesn't still exist, but it does. Sometimes I wonder if my grown daughters ever think about the things we women went through just a short time ago and the changes that many had to fight for to make life easier for them now. The truth is I know they don't since they haven't personally experienced it and I hope they don't have to. When I was in high school it was still expected for a girl to grow up and get married, and have kids. If you wanted a career you could be a nurse or a Secretary, and I am only 44.
