...if there was ever a prime candidate for an '80's cinematic time capsule, it would be the horror/comedy "Night of the Comet", released in 1984, and a delightfully macabre and ghoulishly hilarious staple of camp '80's kitch. What can one say about a comet that does a fly-by past the earth, causing anyone directly exposed to it, to turn to dust; the last survivors are assaulted by crazed, zombified people only partially exposed to the comet's effects, and an inept group of scientists, who desperately want the survivors' blood, in order to reakon-order a cure for the degeneration. And if that's not enough, the fate of the entire world is dependent upon the skilled and resourceful efforts of two air-headed, shopping-mall-addicted Valley Girl sisters!!!
The film is chock-full of cult film stars and scream queen hotties, such as Kelli Maroney, Mary Woronov, and Geoffery Lewis; in one of his very first film roles, Robert Beltran ('Chakotay' of "Star Trek: Voyager") is the intrepid hero, and Catherine Mary Stewart is one of the sisters, who falls for him.
The dialogue is strictly campy '80's kitch, and overflows with inspiration of classic sci-fi & horror films past.
SO, do I recommend the film??....LIKE, TOTALLY!!!!!
In fact, MGM Home Video has finally released the film on DVD, in all of it's '80's decade, campy splender; check out Amazon.com...

I watched this again last Saturday I really like this movie .
it is like a zombie movie but the zombies aren't dead just dried out.
and two teen girls find themselves the last two people on earth (based in L.A.) they find out soon they are not the only survivors.
As far as being funny there are some catchy evil dead like
dialog but it really isn't that funny
what's funny is how 80's this movie is makes me long for the days of high school .....Not really.
This movie is really good in an 80's teen movie sort of way

Funny! It's a little hokey, but that's waht helps make it so funny. You'll enjoy that one. Nothing very scary or dirty in it.

funny, i watched it on the scifi channel once, it still is showed on there sometimes.
