Earnest T ... Legal immigrants are no problem. They apparently respect the law and the procedures required to apply for resident status. Even if their numbers were somewhat elevated, I'd not have a problem with that.
Illegal migrants are an entirely different matter. For whatever reasons, each of them made a conscious decision to take matters into their own hands and come/stay here in violation of the process. In small numbers, I imagine the effect may be negligible. In larger numbers, however, the problems caused by so many illegals adversely affects the economic and social balance in a non-linear fashion. Furthermore, politicians — including our beloved President Reagan, may he rest in his fully-earned peaceful glory — who'd grant amnesty and/or propose a fast-track to citizenship — for what reasons, I don't know — are dong a tremendous disservice (read "slap in the face") to those who DID wait their turn and earned the right to be here.
All this talk about amnesty and a faster path to citizenship is a devilish ploy by the party known for it's willingness to be ever-generous with the peoples' money ... the party that mistakenly thinks John Kennedy said, "Get all you CAN from your country."
Do I understand about Ronald Reagan's accomplishments? His administration surely had its share of flaws. However, he must have been doing SOMEthing right during the campaign; the Iranian regime apparently got the message. After all, the 444-day-long hostage crisis in Tehran ended within 30 minutes of President Reagan's inauguration. Does anyone think that could have been a coincidence?
I was quite old enough and news-aware, for lack of a better term, to recognize the significance of his inaugural ceremonies being repeatedly interrupted by news bulletins to announce the hostages had been released and were on their to freedom again.
Excepting the Marine barracks debacle in Lebanon, his relentless pursuit of peace through strength and "trust, but verify" strategic arms policy, contributed enormously to our win-without-firing-a-shot victory over Soviet communism.
And similar praise is warranted for Pope John Paul II. His unrelenting support for his homeland and the other countries of the eastern block, significantly contributed to the demise of the Warsaw Pact.
I'm sure you enjoyed your chat with the Polish gentleman you met, Earnest T. Thanks for telling us about the conversation he inspired.

I think legal immigrants are great. I do have a serious problem with people coming into this country illegally.
I understand why they want to come to this country, they want to come to this country for the same reasons I want to stay.
I think some states have bigger problems with this issue than others. I live in Florida so we have plenty of legal and illegal immigrants here.
I do notice when I read the newspaper's birth section that more births show up under people with typical names from Spanish speaking countries. I often wonder whether they will use the fact that their child that was born in this country is a citizen to help them gain their own citizenship.
I also notice that in the strawberry fields and orange groves here there are a lot more immigrants working then people that look like they were born here. I know they definitely work harder than most and probably don't make near as much as other people, I can't imagine how much we would pay for strawberries or orange juice if they weren't here doing all that work.
So I don't think we should completely close off our country to immigrants, but I do think they should follow legal ways to get here and legal ways to stay here. I would feel the same way if I chose to become a citizen of their country.

Legal immigration is what this nation is all about. We are the melting pot. We, this nation above all others around the world, is the most diverse. That is what makes us strong. It has to be legal though. Legal immigrants blend and become citizen. Working hard to keep and make American dreams come true. Illegal aliens hide and keep to themselves. They don't become part of the communities because they are to scared of being caught. This does lead to further illegal activity.

Immigration is fine. If people want to come here, follow our laws, and be upstanding citizens then bring em all over!
I never questioned Regan's foreign policies and obviously not the Pope's. Regan did great things. The USSR, helped to end the cold war, and made real progress in regards to the Berlin Wall.
The only thing I ever knocked him on was 'trickle down economics'. Other than that I've always had the utmost respect for him.

I am fine with legal immigration, and am not sure how anyone could not be. Reagan was the only Republican I have ever voted for and was a great leader. He did a lot of historic things during his presidency.

I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for 'Good, Legal, Productive Immigrants'.
My Grandparents and Great Grandparents all came here from Poland (yeah...I'm part Polish) and worked the coal mines in PA.

So many bad Apples. have spoiled it for the few good ones. I know of several that are all about Honor and integrity. And believe in America as a Country. Not for what they can get out of it. They go unnoticed. While the Illegals, get away with it.

My father is a legal, productive immigrant fro ITALY. I believe if you are legal, you are great.. You deserve every benefit this country has to offer. If you are not you deserve nothing or jail.
