There is a girl at work who said, shamelessly that she is using her father's disabled badge.

She is not disabled, are you entitled to free parking aren't you?

The manager said I do not want to hear it because he has a disabled badge and he has a terminally ill sister.

Is this woman breaking the law?

If in UK...Both her and her father will be in trouble!

She will be committing a parking offence by using it , and that will be treated accordingly. She can also get a £1,000 fine.

Not only that, but her father will be seen to be committing an offence by allowing her to use the badge. The badge will be withdrawn and he will also face a £1,000 fine for misuse.

He will also be refused to have his card re-issued if it has been misused 3 times or over, so he will never get another blue badge.

So really the consequences for her really outweigh the fact that she gets free parking! Hope both her and her dad think it was worth it when they get caught!

This is against the law and makes my blood boil. If her father really is disabled not like half the people I see with them who can walk better than I can then she should know better. Especially if when driving her father she can't find a space because there are too many people that have these badges issued.

Point of note although a person with a disabled badge can park on a DYL it must not cause an obstruction. But, unless a "disabled space" has a sign put in by the council it is not illegal to park in the space if you are not disabled, even if there is a sign the owner of property it has been put in for cannot stop another disabled person parking there.

Those badges or placards are issued to one person. In this case her father. Only when he is in the car are they supposed to use it. I have no sympathy for people like that. Because she cheats someone who really does need the parking space may have to go somewhere else. I would covertly call the police department and suggest they check it out.

Where I live there is a $250 fine for a first offense in using a plackard that is not yours. The fine goes to $750 and $1000 with each subsequent offense. Somewhere in there may be some jail time too but I am not sure. If not there should be.

Yes she is !! Absolutely, the badge can only be used when the badge holder is using the car. She is heading for a hefty fine.... I would report her as it giving the honest folk who need the badge spaces a bad name...Of course if you did discuss this with your manager you are in a tricky spot as he too is breaking the law... unless they are bringing the father and sick sister to work...
Very annoying! Perhaps you should mention you know they do spot checks and they will get a huge fine if they are found out and it is not worth the risk..... Good luck....

Yes . She is mis using the badge . In fact she is not allowed to use the badge at all , as it's not her's

To be fair tell her that if she does not stop using the badge , you will report the matter , as she will find out that it was you.

After all the badge is not for her benifit but her sister's , and if it is taken away it will affect her sister and not her

Her father should know better

Yes she is breaking the law.

The badge will have the photograph of her father on it and he is the only one entitled to use it.

However when you display the badge you put the other side facing upwards so no-one actually checks the photo matches the person in the car.

You do get free parking in some places but not everywhere. I

Using the blue badge is only permitted when the person whose picture is on the badge is using the car, or is a passenger in the car at the time

yes! Fraudulent use of the disabled badge is a criminal offence. Every time she uses it to park is a criminal offence. Report it to the police and the local council social security department (who issue the badges) and if possible give them her car registration number and the disabled badge number

Ah! is right. It is illegal and not only will they will both be fined if caught, but it will also be a parking violation and they will get points and fines for that too.

And as for the person above (Frankie) who lends out their badge...shame on you. Your friends are not disabled and YOU dont get to make the rules. Hope you get caught out.
