I use a little utility call delete on reboot. You can download it here http://www.snapfiles.com/get/removereboot.html

The hiberfile.sys is related to the hibernation feature on winxp systems. You will need to turn off hibernation mode, (good idea anyways...) and then delete the file. You can right click on the desktop and choose properties, then go into screen savers then under the monitor power part, click the power button. Once there... choose the hibernation tab on the top of the new window, and uncheck enable hibernation. Once it is unchecked, hit apply and ok to the other windows. You might need to reboot after this has been done before you can delete it.
I hope this helps.

According to my calculations.....I would say the best thing to do is to simply reinstall the entire system. It will ensure that there is nothing leftover from the previous owner and if they happen to have any viruses, they will all be deleted. If you have the original system disks that might have came with the computer or go and get a copy of Windows XP from someone.

The best thing to do is to boot up in safemode and delete the files that way.

This might be a system file. If you don't know what it is, it's better to just leave it there.

Hope that helps!

Edit: I just found some additional info for you:
