You could factor the polynomial, but that tends to be difficult when the coefficient of x^2 is large. For this problem, I recommend the quadratic formula. If you express the quadratic polynomial as ax^2 + bx + c = 0, then x = [-b +/- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac)] / 2a.

x =
[-16 +/- sqrt(16^2 - 4*44*(-3))] / (2*44) =
[-16 +/- sqrt(784)] / 88 =
(-16 +/- 28) / 88 =
( -44 or 12) / 88 =
-1/2 or 3/22 =
-0.5 or 0.136

(22x - 3)(2x + 1) = 0
Equation equals 0 at:
22x - 3 = 0 or x = 3/22, and
2x + 1 = 0 or x = -1/2

(22x-3)(2x+1) = 0
x = 3/22, -1/2
