Reagan increased government a little. Bush Sr. increased government a little. Clinton actually reduced the size of government and Dubya really increased the size of government. Maybe the talk of smaller government is just smoke and mirrors to pander to those who vote.

Well, you have the Patriot act allowing the government to snooop in our personal lives, just to make sure we are proper citizens.
Then you have the largest spending president in history.
Add to that an enormous national debt.....
Warrantless wiretapping...

Oh wait, all of those things make our government big brother. Well, this conservative is stumped! I guess the government has actually gotten bigger in the last 6 years.

You are confused. It is not the Republicans that promise smaller government. It is the party out of power. It just happened that the Dems remained in power for so long that we thought it would ALWAYS be republicans saying that.

as a conservative I will say anyone who thinks that the Republican party creates smaller government needs to get their head out of their ***.

Conflict of ideology and power. Once they got elected, they mostly wanted to hang on to power at all cost. If not for one person wanting to hang on, it is one party that's wanting to hang on. This applies to all parties and most politicians.
