The quick answer is: no it does not mean you are not ovulating (ie: you well may be ovulating) and no it does not mean you cannot get pregnant (ie: you can!)

What you are describing is normal - you don't mention whether or not you are breastfeeding - if you are ths can contribute.

Women can and do become pregnant in the year after giving birth because they incorrectly assume it is "too soon" or that because their periods are still irregulatr they are not ovulating.

My advice would be to make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your concerns - and get some contraceptive advice if you're not ready to add to your family just yet.

You might be having anovulatory cycles (cycles where you don't ovulate) every once in a while. It's normal to have cycle irregularities postpartum and after breasfeeding (even if for just a month or two).

So, yes, you might be ovulating, just not every month. You will need to track your fertility to figure out what's going on. You can learn about checking cervical mucus and taking basal body temp at www.ccli.org There's a great book called The Art of Natural Family Planning.

My mom got pregnant with me after about 3 months of having my sister so I would say that its still possible to ovulate and become pregnant. She had very irregular periods and was even told that she couldn't have children. Hope this helped.

are you breastfeeding? I started having a little irregularity when my babies started slowing down on nursing. there is no guarantees that you will not get pregnant. Even if you aren't regular, you need to realize that you will ovulate before your next cycle. Not knowing when that will be . . . be cautious!

One can ovulate without a menstrual period, the ovulation sets the system to have a menstrual period.

You can ovulate without a period, and hence end up pregnant!!! Last poster's wrong!

Don't believe THAT!
After the first month, you can get pregnant.

If you are NOT NURSING, you can get put on the pill to re-regulate your periods.

If you ARE NURSING, talk to your doctor to try to find a solution.

You can still be ovulating... you can still get pregnant.

The odds are that you are not ovulating and you are just having anovulatory bleeds. However, that doesn't mean you won't ovulate unexpectedly and get pg--the odds just aren't in your favor.
