While they are both very talented, Eddie is by far the better of the two. His technique is far superior and he literally changed rock and roll guitar with his Hammer-On Pull-Off "tricks".

Eddie Van Halen is far more talented in variation and technique then Hammet.

Kirk Hammet for sure. Better guitar player, and hes not a drunken burned-out mess today. Metallica is a much better band too.

Eddie is better. James Hetfield is better for that matter. Kirk is awesome, don't get me wrong, and he can shred with the best of em, and write killer solos (One for instance), but Eddie is much more talented and was a true innovator. Plus he can play a mean piano.

Eddie VH prolly has more natural talent, but he wasted a good deal of it by associating himself with a band that simply can't/couldn't get along. Kirk has natural talent, of course, but look what he did with it, has done with it, and is still doing with it! Kirk helped make Metallica what it is...they ditched a drunken Dave Mustaine...realizing what a real talent Kirk is. I vote Kirk, hands down!!

Eddie, while Kurt is good, he didn't reivent guitar like Eddie did...and he needs to lay off the wah pedal.
