I don't think I'd choose to watch a movie if the best thing they can say about it is that it's a "kleenex tearjerker"!! LOL
But I guess some people actually _enjoy_ that, so they would probably buy such an advertisement.

To be honest, I do cry at movies, but I never know what will make me cry. Sometimes I can watch a terrible drama and remain dry-eyed, and sometimes I bawl my eyes out with Shrek... often my reaction has more to do with my mood and state of mind at the time than with the actual story line.

And with respect to the rest of your questions, yes, there are enough tears in the real world, and consequently, especially when I'm feeling down, I choose upbeat movies.
As I don't watch a lot of movies, I try to select good ones. They may be sad, however I don't watch them for the 'suffering value' but for their aesthetics and the ideas they present.

I refuse to watch a movie that will make me cry. Most of these type of movies have plots that are unrealistic or designed to have a fairy tale ending. I live in the real world. The only kind I would consider would be a movie based on a real story that doesn't deviate too much from the original story.

I remember years ago, how I was forced to watch the movie, "Beaches" with my girlfriend. It was a sappy and sentimental story where two close friends in early childhood carried on a-- ever-so-close--relationship in adulthood. Never mind the fact that one lived on the East coast and the other on the West coast. C'mon, how unrealistic is that. I used all my might, to hold back those tears for the last half hour of the movie. Not a good way for a man to impress his date.

No more tear-jerkers for me. I use a Kleenex to blow my nose these days.

Sometimes I cry when I watch certain movies, but that's not 'planned cry'. I usually cry because of deep emotion in my heart watching a sincere man/ woman struggling against pain, rejection, lies, even death sentence for a great cause, e.g. for saving people. If I knew there would be sad moments in a movie, I wouldn't cry because the emotional effect is lesser.

Personally, I don't like 'kleenex tearjerker' movies because they seems stupid, and I feel the actors and director fool me to get money.

There are indeed enough "tears" in the world. Some movies have been very moving, (pardon the pun), but I can't imagine crying about something I know isn't real. Perhaps some people just choose to cry about something other than the personal things that make them cry. A rather strange therapy, I'd say. To each his own.

I occasionally watch movies I know will make me cry. I have a few in my collection for that very reason. I do that because I'm an emotional person, but sometimes I build up too much emotion in me. When I watch movies that make me cry, it's like releasing the pressure valve. I'm able to get my emotions out in a good way so they don't overwhelm me.

I like to watch films that are moving and make me want to be a better person. I DON'T, however, like having my emotions jerked around for the sake of jerking them around. I wouldn't want to watch a "Kleenex tearjerker" anymore than I would a "You don't wanna miss" episode of ER.

I'm usually not a fan of the 'tearjerker' type movie, they usually seem too manipulative and schmaltzy for me.

But one film that always chokes me up everytime I see it is Iron Giant (the "Superman" part). And I've seen that film many times.

There are many films that make us happy, excited, scared, even horny. One that can make us sad is just as valid, and connecting to our emotions is sometimes a good thing.

Well, if you don't want to watch the movie, than don't. I watched a sad movie and it made me sooo sad. It left me heartbroken, but only for a couple days. Afterwords, i reallized it was a really good movie, and if I didn't watch it I would of missed out.

Yep. Sometimes I need a good cry. I can usually count on My Girl or Steel Magnolias to do the trick.
