this question always amuses me, because it is impossible to "water down" petroleum. How do you suppose they would get the water to mix with an oil product?
Have you ever added water to cooking oil? What happens? The oil floats on top of the water. There is no possible way that anyone can add water to gasoline. The gasoline would float on top of the water in their underground tank, and that would be stupid of them to do.

RE:
Do they add water to gasoline?
Usually I get about 300 - 320 miles per tank. But I went to a really good gas station and I'm getting 200 miles so far and it's half empty. Do most gas stations add water?

Adding water to gasoline will cause your vehicle to run roughly and to stall and miss. Water in fuel does not compress.
Filters on cars do not properly filter out water, you may have noted that periodically a gas staion will check the storage tank with a long stick with a solution on the end to measure the amount of water in the fuel.
Here is a thought for you, if you run your car on a full tank you will get less gas mileage than you would with a half tank. The logic is that gas weighs about six pounds and the less weight that you carry will give you better gas mileage.

No. Water is not added to gasoline. Condensation can occur, contaminating your fuel but auto shops sell additives that are designed to dry out your fuel. As for the gas station that you are having a problem with, I'd call the Dept of weights and measures. His pump could be tampered with or he could be adding something to his gas to stretch his profits. I've seen this before and it resulted in the owner of the station losing his franchise. Either way, I'd report it and shop elsewhere.

Gas stations do not add water to gasoline. In fact, pumps have filters to remove any water that might form in the underground storage tank due to condensation.
Water in your gas tank will result in rust in your fuel injectors and other parts of the fuel system, so both cars and gas pumps are designed to remiove any that might enter the system.

If you suspect you have been shortchanged, you might want to report the gas station to the proper state regulatory agency. Quite a few gas stations commit fraud by modifying the computer systems that meter out the gasoline. Most if not all states have rigorous inspection of pumps, but fraud does happen quite often.
