it was as good as i expected, maybe even a little better.

of course this was not as good as the original. i didn't even expect it to compare--but then how could it? James Stewart, Grace Kelly and Raymond Burr? be serious. (Morse is always good but not given as much to do as Burr.)

but as a teenager in peril movie, it's a step above the usual fare.

I agree with Stephan... It was not all it was hyped up to be! If you want to be at all scared, don't waste the money! It's worth renting when it comes out on video, but go see something better. Maybe Vacancy! That looks good.

I think its a good movie. Here is the synopsis of movie.

The film starts out with Kale (Shia LaBeouf) and his father fishing in a river, while occasionally throwing wise-cracks at to one another. As Kale drives the two of them back home, they call Julie (Carrie Ann Moss), Kale's mother. Suddenly, a black Ford Expedition jumps in front of them, causing Kale to lose sight of the road. The Expedition quickly makes a sharp turn and causes Kale and his father to hit a car on the side of the road and fly into the air, causing the car to land upside down. Another car then comes and runs them over. Kale climbs out of the car and quickly runs to the other side, but finds that his father is dead.

Kale is then seen in a foreign language class one year later. He begins to have trouble answering one of the teacher's questions. The teacher becomes annoyed and asks, "What would your father think?" Kale becomes furious and punches the teacher in the face, knocking him to the ground.

Kale and the the teacher are seen in court. Because Kale is only a few months short of 18, he would be sentenced to several years in juvenile detention, but because Kale lost his father, the judge has pity on him and sentences him to three months of house-arrest.

Deprived of various electronic entertainments by his disciplining mother, Kale takes to watching his neighbors with binoculars. He observes a new family moving in next door with a notably beautiful teenage daughter, who becomes the initial focus of his voyeurism. Meanwhile a TV news report says that local police are seeking a serial killer who may be driving a blue 1960s Ford Mustang with a dented side and who may be from Austin, Texas. When Kale observes another neighbor, a fifty-something man with a gray ponytail, an earring, and a vaguely sinister manner, backing just such a car into his garage, his suspicions are aroused.

Kale becomes increasingly friendly with his pretty new neighbor, Ashley (Sarah Roemer). Both Ashley and Kale's best friend Ronnie (Aaron Yoo), at first skeptical, gradually become involved in Kale's suspicions about the Mustang-driving neighbor. The three arrange to break into his car, and eventually his house, in search of clues. He becomes to some extent aware of their interest in him, and confronts Ashley, while also befriending Julie, Kale's mother, in a seemingly innocent manner. Kale and his friends remain suspicious, but their attempts to unmask the neighbor at first prove unsuccessful and get Kale into further trouble. By the time they have proof that he is indeed the Austin serial killer, they have placed themselves and Julie in grave danger.

It had some good parts and the acting was good but it wasnt as good as all the hype would leave you to believe. Save this one for a rental.

I don't know, haven't seen it yet---looks good. David Morse always plays "good" bad guys.

I found it a rather weak remake of "Rear Window"
