I plant mine out in pots round about middle of August that way it gives the soil a chance to warm up and gives the bulb a good start don't over water them other wise you will rot the bulb once they start coming up then give them more, oh by the way if you are planting straight in to the ground and you have hedgehogs that visit you garden they dig them up and eat them they love young bulbs

I planted mine in March and then panicked because of impending frosts - luckily mine survived and are now growing well! I find it best to plant them in containers/pots as they need to be lifted when the weather starts to get colder. At least with container planting you can cover them easily if the weather looks like it is going to take a turn for the worse and rather than lifting them you can always bring them indoors before Winter sets in.
