Is there ever any way at all to tell for sure?
And how do we know that imitation diamond fakes aren't flooding our markets as well,
worth fifty cents, but sold for thousands?

I don't think people should buy diamonds anymore at all,

A sapphire is much nicer for an engagement ring anyway and it's steeped in much more tradition.

That's a silly question. There is no way to determine this. They don't ask you what your political affiliation is when you buy a diamond, and the origin of many so called blood diamonds are often hidden, so you would never know if you were buying one anyway.
