HOW To LAND A BIG SPONSORSHIP FOR MY TEAM?
I AM STARTING AN AAU BASKETBALL TEAM IN LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY. THIS ISN'T YOUR AVERAGE TEAM THOUGH. IT IS A VERY HIGH PROFILE TEAM WITH THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE LEXINGTON AREA.

AAU IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND WE ARE LOOKING FOR A BIG TIME SPONSOR. THEY WILL GET GOOD EXPOSURE WHILE HELPING MY TEAM OUT.

MY QUESTION IS HOW IN THE WORLD CAN I DO THIS? WHAT ARE THE STEPS AND WHO SHOULD I CONTACT?

ANY ADVICE WILL BE NICE, THANKS!

Your best bet would be to contact a PR or Advertising firm. They have clients who would probably be interested in reaching the demographic that will watch your team play.

That's a good starting point. If you have any players with relatives or friends in management at such companies, that would be a good "in" as well.

Good luck!

whoa genius back the truck up.. ya sure youre ready to run this thing?....for sponsors, basically, think real hard!! are there any local businesses that are already using some form of advertising?. ... do ya ever see billboards or flyers in your local paper?. any business that places an emphasis on consumers knowing and recognizing their brand might be interested in the exposure you might could provide. {{think: banks, car dealerships, etc.}} dress up real nice, make an appointment to see a person in authority at a potential sponsor, and go meet with him. outline your needs and the benefits available to his company, good luck.
