Just run to the store and grab some Airborne! It's great for helping keep cold away and keeping them to yourself! As long as you dont sneeze on him or whatever he shouldnt get it, most 'common' colds are most contagious BEFORE you realize you even have it so if you are showing symptoms you shouldnt have much to worry about! Just make sure to wash your hands before and after you hold or play with him! Have fun!

I don't know about cancelling your flight. That is up to you and your sister or sister in law. You should talk to her about it ASAP.
I was still pretty protective and anal about germs when my daughter was that age because illnesses in small babies are scary. If you decide not to cancel your flight, then just wash your hands frequently, bring cold remedies, and maybe even a mask for your nose and mouth. I think drug stores sell them.
Also you don't know how long it will last. I've had a sore throat for a day or two then felt fine. You can still have a good visit even if your cold lasts awhile, even if you don't get to hold the baby much. Maybe you can offer to do dishes, make meals, wash clothes. That way, you can visit, stay away from the baby and you will be appreciated more than you know!

I would go! Just use common sense to prevent the spread of germs like others have suggested. The baby's parents will eventually also get a cold at some point- does that mean they should avoid the baby too?
Anyway doctors usually say that the time at which you are the most contagious is when you are first feeling the symptoms of a cold, so if yours is full blown already, it's not that you are not contagious but things like not kissing the baby and using hand sanitizer, etc will go a long way to keep the baby and parents from getting what you got!

Well No there is no need to cancel your flight. With your nephew being 5 weeks old he still carries his mothers antibodies that's means he has a good immune system.Just make sure that you wash your hands often and don't kiss the baby on the mouth.

When my son was a week old my husband had my step daughter over and she was a little sick. I almost flipped out, but I spoke with my doctor and she gave me the advise to have her wear a surgical mask. The baby looked at her a little crazy but at least he didnt get sick. Also if you do decide to go...WASH YOUR HANDS LIKE CRAZY. My doctor also said that washing you hands with soap and water is 100% better than any of those anti bacterial hand sanitizers.

No, you should not go. I know your excited but if you have a sore throat you could even have strep. He has not had many shots yet and does not have a strong enough immune system yet. Don't even ask the parents, do the right thing and don't risk this baby getting sick. Postpone your visit
Hope you feel better!

You don’t have to cancel your flight. Just wear a mask that can cover your mouth. That way your nephew is safe. You can buy a mask in a drugstore that doctor usually wear. In Taiwan, people are usually wearing a mask if they have colds.

New born babies have a natural immune system inherited from their mothers at birth. This lasts about 4-6 months. However , the nurse may have you wear a protective mask just to be safe.

Visit him but take precautions. Avoid handling the baby and wear a mask in his presence. They are available at all pharmacies. People that have allergies frequently use them--they filter both ways.

I would call and ask the parents first. If you and they decide that you should come, make sure you wash your hands before touching the baby, after each time you sneeze, cough, or blow your nose. And make sure you throw your tissue away after each use.
